Recipients of the PHA Fund for Haiti Announced!

Posted 5.6.10

After many months of careful consideration and conversation, at International Night on May 1, 2010, the committee charged with determining the allocation of the money collected for the PHA Fund for Haiti announced its two recipients.

Prior to determining the recipients, the committee established three criteria to guide its decision making:

  1. The money had to directly benefit the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
  2. The amount of money raised had to be sufficient to make a real difference for the project(s) being funded.
  3. The project funded should have some personal connection to the community of Prospect Hill Academy.

In the end, the committee decided to allocate $1000 to the Walls of Hope project started by Dr. Charlene Desir, former Dean of Students from 2004-2006 at the Upper School, and the remainder (approximately $3000 as of May 1) to the Louverture Cleary School where Ms. Betsy Bowman, longtime PHA faculty member is currently on sabbatical in Haiti.

Please refer to the attached document for statements of appreciation from Dr. Desir and Ms. Bowman to the Prospect Hill Academy community.
