Thank You to All Who Contributed

At the third Journeys and Destinations, guests were welcomed by a sea of color, the sounds of an outstanding mariachi band, and the warm introductions to various groups of students at this Latin themed event. The evening featured an extensive silent auction with nearly 40 items ranging from a deluxe Red Sox ticket package, to a luxury spa day and a variety of restaurant gift certificate.

The evening also features a fun interactive game that asked guests to compose a postcard by obtaining answers to questions asked of the many students present at the event. The cards were then thrown in a mailbox from which a grand winner was drawn. This unique game allowed guests to get to know our students and learn firsthand who they are supporting and why.

The event raised nearly $30,000 and we would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to our donors and sponsors:

Junior Journey is a unique program that culminates in a three-week stay in Antigua, Guatemala. The journey combines intensive Spanish language study with profound community service learning, and cultural immersion through homestays. The program allows Prospect Hill Academy Charter School Juniors to grow personally, academically, and socially as they prepare for their transition to college.

Most of our students come from immigrant communities and have never been apart from their families. Providing them with the Junior Journey learning experience has led to an extraordinarily positive transformation within each student who participated. They returned more confident, worldly, and have learned first hand that each person, regardless of economic constraints, can make a positive impact upon those less fortunate.

The Junior Journey experience is also a concrete way to help close the education gap. While such transformative opportunities are the norm at independent schools and affluent districts, they are rare in urban schools. The program aligns with Prospect Hill Academy's mission to "prepare each student for success in college, inspire a lifelong love of learning, and foster responsible citizenship" and with the school’s desire to provide an equitable education for all.
