PHA Celebrates Haiti
Posted 2.4.10
On the evening of February 3, 2010, members of the PHA community gathered at the Lower School to celebrate and honor the rich history, traditions, and culture of Haiti. Organized by a dedicated and passionate committee of PHA parents, students and administrators, the event was only a few weeks in the making but was a tremendous success. The turnout was spectacular, with nearly 800 PHA students, families, faculty, staff, and other community members attending.
Through the efforts of the planning committee and dozens of volunteers, the cafeteria was beautifully decorated in blue and red, the colors of the Haitian flag. These colors were echoed in clothing worn by many of the attendees as a sign of solidarity and support for the people of Haiti.
After enjoying a variety of delicious Haitian dishes, guests settled in their seats and PHA students and family members took to the stage and delighted the excited audience with song, dance and poetry performances. Though given less than two weeks to prepare, the performers were excellent, proudly demonstrating their varied talents in support of Haiti and the strength and resilience of its people.
Jed Lippard, PHA’s Head of School, later remarked on the success of the evening, stating that it was:”An extraordinary gathering by all accounts and a true testament to the strength of our community at PHA.” Such a strong showing of support by members of the PHA community reflected the truth of the Haitian motto “L'Union fait la force.” Unity makes strength.
Money raised at the event will go to the PHA Fund for Haiti. For more information about the Fund, please contact Anja Bresler, External Relations Director, at 617-284-7822 or abresler@prospecthillacademy.org.
